Bugis Museum is located in Kampung Teluk Kerang, Pontian, Johor, Malaysia. This museum was built by local residents who were interested in preserving various historical collections related to the Malays, especially the Bugis ethnic group. The Bugis people came to the Malay Peninsula after Makassar in Sulawesi was attacked and captured by the Dutch. Most of the residents of Ambon Island in Sulawesi were successfully Christianized by the Dutch colonialists.
In this museum, various large-sized black and white photos are exhibited. There are large-sized kitchen utensils. Because this museum is not professionally managed, some of the materials in it do not remain beautiful. There is no entrance fee but you can make a sincere donation.
This museum was initially founded in 1982 as Bugis Heritage. On 26 July 1994, the Johor Government supported this museum through the Johor Heritage Foundation and declared this museum as the first Bugis museum in Malaysia.[1] In October 2016, the Governor of South Sulawesi, Syahrul Yasin Limpo visited this museum and met with local Bugis residents. He hopes that relations between Bugis people in different countries will be maintained.[2]
