Ditubuhkan pada tahun 1993, Taman Negara Johor Endau-Rompin berkeluasan 48,905 ha merupakan kawasan perlindungan terbesar di Selatan Semenanjung Malaysia. Hutan hujan tertua yang terletak di Tenggara Johor ini merupakan khazanah biodiversiti dan habitat genting yang sangat penting bagi kelangsungan hidup megafauna terancam di negara ini, termasuk harimau belang malaya, tapir malaya dan gajah asia.<\/p>\n
Terdapat dua pintu masuk utama ke taman negara Johor Endau Rompin iaitu pintu masuk Peta yang terletak di sempadan timur, di daerah Mersing dan pintu masuk Selai di sempadan barat daya, di daerah Segamat.<\/p>\n
Pintu masuk Selai dinamakan sempena sungai utama yang mengalir melalui taman itu. Legenda Orang Asli tempatan mengatakan bahawa suatu ketika dahulu, seorang puteri syurga dengan suhu badan yang panas turun ke bumi. Panas yang dipancarkan dari tubuhnya menyebabkan sungai besar yang mengalir dari gunung-gunung Gunung Besar menjadi sekecil buluh, atau dalam bahasa tempatan, sepotong buluh (atau \u201cJam\u201d dalam bahasa ringkas).<\/p>\n
Sungai Selai lebih kecil berbanding Sungai Endau dan Sungai Jasin di muara Peta, namun, Sungai Selai memberikan suasana yang tenang, dengan pokok-pokok Pelawan yang indah tumbuh di tepi air, dedaunannya membiaskan cahaya matahari ke atas pulau-pulau batu kecil yang penuh dengan hidupan akuatik. .<\/p>\n

Established in 1993, Johor Endau-Rompin National Park with an area of \u200b\u200b48,905 ha is the largest protected area in the South of Peninsular Malaysia.
